“I’ve always had a love for design,” Afaq begins. “Since childhood, it was clear to me that I wanted to create something beautiful for women. I graduated from the Construction and Architecture University in Azerbaijan, in the faculty of design, and while music was my favorite hobby, I always dreamed of launching my own fashion brand.”
That dream took root early in her life. Growing up in a creatively rich environment, Afaq was surrounded by stories, song, and sophisticated taste. Her grandfather, a celebrated academic, rector of the University of Arts in Azerbaijan, and a noted lyricist for popular musicals, left a strong impression on her. “He was my first source of inspiration,” she recalls. “He was not only a professor but also a famous writer. His passion for the arts, for storytelling, and for culture shaped my world from a very young age. I truly believe the love for music and creativity is in my DNA.”
Afaq’s first claim to fame came through her music career in Azerbaijan. Her soulful voice and stage presence earned her widespread recognition, but despite her success in music, her passion for fashion never waned. Five years ago, she made the pivotal decision to move to Dubai, setting aside her music to pursue a long-held dream.
“When I moved to Dubai, I made the decision to pause my music career and focus fully on fashion,” she explains. “It was time to chase the other half of my passion. That’s how my fashion company was born.”
The result is a luxurious abaya line that redefines modest fashion for the modern Middle Eastern woman. With a focus on sophistication, elegance, and femininity, Afaq’s designs challenge outdated perceptions of traditional wear. “One of my biggest motivations came from observing how simple abayas often were,” she says. “I wanted to show women that you can be stunningly attractive, even sexy, without revealing your body. A well-designed abaya speaks volumes. It’s not about showing more, it’s about saying more with less.”
Her collections are known for their rich fabrics, couture cuts, and intricate detailing, each piece telling a story of empowerment and beauty. And Afaq is not just the designer behind the scenes. With her striking looks and camera presence, she proudly models her own designs.
“I use my beauty to amplify the message of my work,” she says. “Being a model, a singer, and a designer, these are all forms of art. For me, they’re connected. Art is the center of everything I do, so it doesn’t feel like I’m switching roles. It’s just me expressing myself in different ways.”
Running a fashion brand, however, is no easy feat, especially as a young entrepreneur managing a growing team in a highly competitive market. Afaq is candid about the hurdles she’s faced in bringing her vision to life.
“There were moments I felt discouraged,” she admits. “Managing a big team, making all the right decisions, it’s a lot of pressure. But my love for fashion kept me going. I reminded myself every day why I started. I had a goal, and I knew I had to see it through.” Her resilience and dedication are evident in every detail of her brand, which continues to gain traction across Dubai and beyond. But Afaq’s ambitions don’t end there.
“My main goal for the next few years is to turn my brand into a leading luxury abaya label across the Middle East,” she says confidently. “I want to open a grand showroom in Dubai, where women from all over the region can experience the full essence of the brand. I also want to see my designs worn in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and everywhere where women value tradition blended with contemporary fashion.”
Despite her busy schedule, Afaq remains deeply connected with her fanbase, especially through Instagram and TikTok. With thousands of followers and growing influence, she shares not just her collections, but glimpses of her personal journey, offering inspiration to young women pursuing their dreams.
“I post content that is engaging and relatable,” she explains. “Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot or a motivational quote, I want my followers to find something of value. I also go live often to connect with them directly. I answer questions, talk about fashion, and just have real conversations. It’s important to me to stay close to the people who support me.”
Her personal style, much like her brand, is bold and distinct. Afaq refuses to blend in or follow trends blindly. “I love uniqueness,” she says with a smile. “I always want to stand out, not to impress, but to express. I don’t like repetition, and I don’t like being just another person in the crowd. I think that mindset is what helped me shape something original in the fashion world.”
When asked about her experience in Dubai, Afaq expresses a deep sense of belonging. “Dubai feels like my second home,” she says. “It’s a Muslim country like Azerbaijan, and culturally, there are many similarities. I’ve never felt like a guest here. On the contrary, this city welcomed me and gave me the freedom to create. It’s full of opportunities and positive energy. That’s why I love it.”
As much as she is focused on her career, Afaq’s dreams are beautifully balanced between professional success and personal fulfillment. “Personally,” she reveals, “I want to get married, have a loving family, and raise beautiful children. That’s just as important to me as building a fashion empire. I believe you can have both, a successful business and a happy home.”
To aspiring designers, singers, or creatives of any kind, Afaq has one message, “Never give up. Always follow your dreams. Don’t let the fear of failure stop you. When you start believing in your dreams, you begin to attract them into your life. It all starts with belief.”
With that belief, Afaq Aslan continues to rise, gliding effortlessly between the worlds of fashion, music, and art. Whether she’s singing from a stage, sketching a new design, or striking a pose in one of her creations, she is a vision of empowerment.
